The Billing Specialist II is accountable for investigating and fixing pre-processing mistakes and edits under the supervision of the patient financial services leadership team to guarantee that claims are submitted on time. In order to satisfy the various payor requirements and keep up production levels, claim appeals must be processed correctly and promptly. The billing specialist II is a member of a team that is dedicated to the mission of EBNHC and understands that their work directly affects the organization’s ability to meet sustainable financial levels.

Essential duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains production levels of pre-processed claims, resolving errors and edits to ensure claims are timely filed.
  • Maintains production levels of claim appeals to comply with payor requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of specific billing codes consistent with third party payor requirements. Reviews remittance advices to identify trends in payment delays or denials.
  • Communicates with leadership and team members about work flow status and helps ensure that deadlines are being met. Reads and understands assigned third party payor reimbursement regulations and updates
  • Generates and submits claims based on payor preference as required.
  • Work along EBNHC PFS Leadership team with on various assigned payors as it pertains to submission and reimbursement of claims.
  • High School Diploma required, advanced schooling preferred.
  • 2-3 years experience in a medical billing/insurance office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of insurance rules and regulations
  • Strong organizational skills and effective interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in PC software (i.e database)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9/10 coding
  • Ability to solve problems effectively
