About

Xcel Energy was founded in 1998, but its origins can be traced back to the start of the 20th century when the Roswell Electric Light Co. was formed to power the New Mexico town. The Windsource project allows customers to have a say in how much power they get from renewable energy sources like wind farms.

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the company is formed of four operating subsidiaries. Xcel Energy serves more than 3.3 million electric customers and 1.8 million natural gas customers across these subsidiary companies in 8 states: Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.
