The City of Hattiesburg has made significant strides in enhancing operations and customer service over the last four years. As a result, city services to residents have improved, and the city continues to make the necessary improvements.

The City will concentrate especially on the Water and Sewer Department, building on these advancements, with a focus on modernizing both the infrastructure and the customer experience. For water billing specifically, this entails streamlining the way residents receive water bills and giving them more options for paying them.

Residents currently get a 46 postcard with basic usage and payment information every month (see inset). Over time, complaints about the lack of information regarding previous months’ usage, the size of the card making it frequently easy to lose in the mail, and the difficulty of mailing in or dropping off a payment when necessary have been heard from numerous residents.

The City’s water billing division has spent the last two years researching best practices for utility industry bill mailings, and it is now moving forward with an upgraded solution that will modernize a remarkably antiquated procedure and address many residents’ concerns.

Water bills will have a new look and be delivered in an envelope to mailboxes starting in November. A full-page printout in an envelope with a security envelope for paying bills is part of the improved design (see inset).

Prior to switching over in November, residents will receive multiple communications about the new design throughout September and October in addition to their regular water bills.
